Redbox to Install 6K Kiosks in CVS/Pharmacy Locations
Posted by Shane Smith on Aug 06, 2010 under news
The big red machine keeps on rolling. Redbox has announced that it will be installing kiosks at more than 6,000 CVS/pharmacy locations across the country and in Puerto Rico, as well as in Hawaiian Longs Drugs stores.

Redbox plans to have 700 of the CVS/pharmacy kiosks installed by the end of this year, with the rest added by the end of 2011.

Redbox president Mitch Lowe said the following about the rollout:
“We’re pleased to add CVS/pharmacy stores to our list of convenient locations for movie lovers to rent films,”
At what point will Redbox run out of locations to place kiosks? Will rival BB Express kiosks from NCR ever be able to catch up? Tell us what you think in the comments.

I am salivating over the possibility of a new perennial promo code: Like DVDATWAG or DRIVEIN
How about CVS4INSIDERS !!!

I don’t know about ‘salivating’, but a perennial code was one of my first happy thoughts too! I have a CVS within a half mile from me, I’m a regular customer and familiar/friendly with the manager, and was thinking on top of a perennial code perhaps talking the manager into pushing for CVS/Redbox promotions….such as buy two 2 liters of pepsi get a code, etc… Always thinking, thinking, planning, planning….;-)

Aluminum cans, now that’s an idea! Maybe the manager will let me set up a recycle bin on the outside of CVS whereas I can collect and cash in once a week for my Redbox rentals! Thanks Hank for the idea! It appeals to the resourceful and self- reliant side of me. I’m not sure, but I think food stamps is only for ‘food’ and wouldn’t work for a dvd rental–and besides, I’d have to quit my job and apply for food stamps,…nope, too much hassle :-).

Actually my response was not Pavlovian, but more deranged… as in “foaming-at-the mouth”.
Where I live there seems to be a CVS next to just about every Walgreen’s.

We have a CVS everywhere a Walgreens is also. I bet CVS gets one before the 2nd redbox at Walgreens starts working. It has been sitting there for 3 months with a coming soon sticker on the screen.

I have a CVS and a Walgreens right across the street from each other about 2 tenths of a mile away from my house.. that would be rad with a new freebie code to go with it. I love free stuff.. expecially free movies :) Does drivein really work? I haven’t heard of that one.

DVDATWAG is only for Walgreen’s locations
DRIVEIN is only for Sonic locations

I’m not a big fan of CVS (I like Walgreens much better) but this is a good add for Redbox

..and this is the final nail in the Blockbuster Express Coffin. This was their last hope at being legitimate.

This would be awesome! No more driving to the 7-11 about 10 blocks to the west of me, or Albertson’s about 10 blocks to the south of me, when I can walk to the CVS across the street. Woo hooooo!! Hope my neighborhood CVS gets chosen as a location!

Everybody that complains about Redbox needs to try using a BB Express machine and you’ll see how good you have it. The BBE touchscreens aren’t very good at all(Everyone that uses the one up the street from me where a RB used to be complains about it constantly). Also, a lot of the 28-day delay titles that were available at BBE kiosks aren’t readily available much anymore.
This is a huge score for CVS. This means even more RB locations here in my town. Looking forward to it!Visitor [Join Now]

I think these stores should start charging redbox them royalty fee for putting a box in their stores.
Everybody benefit and so sad for blockbuster since they will be next. Hollywood video, they killed all of them in my local town.
Them smaller video stores are doing ok because their number one customers are asian who watches them hong kong flicks. They are ok and is not competing with them american movies.
