Old Fashioned Chocolate Pie

I come from a huge family. My grandparents had seven children and thirty-three grandchildren. Every year, right before New Year’s Eve, we would all get together at my grandparent’s house and celebrate the holidays together. Everyone brought their favorite few dishes and we had a feast!

As a young child, my favorite part of this whole get together was the dessert. There were always 10+ different types of pies, piles of cookies, sheets of cake, and it was all soo good. I remember one of my aunts made an old fashioned chocolate pie, every year. It had a creamy and rich filling, with a crumbly and buttery homemade crust. If you wanted a piece of that pie,you had to be one of the first in line because it went quick!

Now that I have a daughter, we are starting our own holiday celebrations. Baking is a perfect way to bond with a child and it teaches the basics in the kitchen that they’ll need to know when they are older. I decided to start a tradition of baking my aunt’s old fashioned chocolate pie with my daughter this year. She was a huge fan of both the cooking process and especially eating the pie!
