Packing up for a trip is always a bit difficult. What pieces of clothing do you take with you? And how much of each? You’re probably even in a rush when packing because we all seem to do it pretty much last minute.
So, especially for other men like me that have to think about packing for a 4-day city trip, here’s a little guide to help you. If you really like it, I have added a subscription form to receive a printable version of this list (+ many other checklists that come in handy).
Men’s packing list essentials for 4 days
Men’s clothes for a 4-day city trip (or 3 nights)
Your clothing is probably the most important thing to pack. I created this list with a bit of a buffer in underwear and socks. You never know what will happen. All these numbers exclude the clothes you are already wearing upon departure. So the numbers are what you actually pack in your suitcase.
- 4 pieces of underwear: it’s best to have more than too few.
- 4 pairs of socks
- 4 T-shirts
- 1 Shirt for more special occasions: who knows, you will get a date or go to a nice restaurant
- 1 extra pair of pants
- 1 sweater
- Extra pair of shoes
- A bag for laundry (unless you use an old t-shirt like me)
Extra men’s clothes for warmer city trips
Going someplace warm? Well, consider packing these.
- 1 pair of shorts
- Swimming trunks
Extra men’s clothes for colder city trips
Going someplace cold and rainy? Consider packing these.
- A hat
- A pair of gloves
- A scarf
- A coat
Men’s hygiene products for a 4-day city trip
Keeping yourself clean is essential. It’s respectful to the people around you, your travel buddies, and your personal health.
If you bring any liquids in your carry-on, make sure they are small enough for TSA to accept them.
If you’re traveling with friends, some of these items can be shared. I added a * for those items. There’s no need to bring one for each of you.
- Toothbrush (+ its charger if it’s an electrical one)

Although bringing as little tech as possible is the best to keep your experience as real as possible, it’s sometimes important to bring some of these with you.

Miscellaneous items for a men’s 4-day city trip
A list of items you might need on your trip. Make sure not to bring any unnecessary stuff, though.
- Your passport if you’re traveling internationally.
- A credit card
- A copy of your documents
- A driver’s license
- Your plane tickets (if you are flying)
- A travel wallet
- Paper Tissues
- A universal charger if you go intercontinental
- A booklet + pen to write down your adventures
- Medicines (painkillers, pills for nausea, …)
- Condoms (better safe than sorry)
- A book to read on slow moments
- A reusable water bottle
- Sunglasses
Extra’s to pack if you are staying in a hostel
If you are staying in a hostel for your 4-day city trip, it’s important to pack a couple of extra items to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
- Eye mask
- Earplugs
- A lock
- Sleeping bag and bed linen, if not provided by the hostel
- A quick-dry towel (take two)
- Flipflops for in the showers

Some Airbnb provides more services and items than others, so keep in mind to check what will be included in the booking and what not.

Some additional packing tips
If you are traveling with friends, try sharing some items. You don’t need a bottle of shampoo per person. One is enough for a group of friends. So discuss in advance who will bring what.
