What goes into the Hamburger Sliders?

To make these extra cheesy sliders, you will need:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef. I like to use 85/15or leaner. If you use 80/20, or a blend with more fat, be sure to drain off the excess fat using a slotted spoon before adding to the buns, to prevent sogginess.
  • 1 small onion, grated. Grating the onion with a box grater makes sure it's super fine, and blends seamlessly into the meat.
  • 1 packet onion soup mix, such as Lipton's.
  • 2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. I like Lea & Perrins.
  • 1 pack Sweet Hawaiian rolls, such as King's Hawaiian Rolls. You can also use any slider rolls you like!
  • ½ tbspEverything Bagel Seasoning. I get mine at Trader Joe's or Aldi, but it's available in pretty much every grocery store. Not into all the extra seasoning? You can substitute for plain white sesame seeds! this is for the top of the sliders, and goes along with garlic butter for extra flavor!
  • 4 tablespoon melted butter. Salted or unsalted work!
  • 2 cloves minced garlic. You'll whisk the garlic into the melted butter, and slather the rolls right before topping with the Everything Bagel Seasoning and baking.
  • 6 slices Colby jack cheese. This is just my preference. You can use any easily melted sliced cheese you like, such as Monterey Jack, Swiss, or Muenster. Good old American cheese slices will also do the trick!
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese, for topping the burger meat. The sharp flavor of the cheese really rounds out the ooey-gooey burger sliders.

Cooking the beef

To make the beef super moist and flavorful - in a large mixing bowl, mix beef with onion soup mix, grated onion, and soup packet until just combined.

Heat a medium to large frying pan or large skillet over medium-high heat, and spread the meat mixture out in an even layer. Brown the beef for 3-4 minutes undisturbed, then flip and cook until fully browned, breaking up into small pieces as you go, about 4 minutes more.

Add the Worcestershire sauce last, and cook 2 minutes, stirring well.

Toasting the buns

Toasting the buns is super fast and easy, using your oven's broiler. Cut the King’s Hawaiian slider buns in half (preferably with a serrated knife), separating tops and bottoms. Place the rolls cut side up on a cookie sheet, and place under your oven’s broiler on high for 1-3 minutes, until lightly toasted. Transfer to a parchment lined (you can also use aluminum foil) baking sheet or baking dish. Once you're done broiling, preheat the oven to get ready to bake the ground beef sliders.

Layering the cheese

There are 2 layers of cheese to these sliders, which is part of what makes them extra delicious. You'll start with sliced Colby cheese on the bottom buns. Add this in an even layer to the bottom buns only right after toasting the buns.

Assembling the Cheesy Hamburger Sliders

Transfer cooked meat evenly over Colby cheese and bottom buns, using a slotted spoon leaving any grease and liquid behind. Top the ground beef mixture layer with grated cheddar, and place on top bun layer.

Making the garlic butter for the buns

To make the garlic butter for the tops of the buns, all you need to do is melt the butter, and whisk in the minced garlic. I like to melt my butter for about 30 seconds in the microwave in a liquid measure, then use a garlic press to press the garlic right into the butter. Then I just whisk it up, and brush it generously over the top of the buns with a silicone brush.

Seasoning the buns and baking

The best rolls for this hamburger sliders recipe are any slider buns you can get your hands on. I love King's Hawaiian for these, as they are light and fluffy, but any of your favorite dinner rolls will work, provided they can be arranged in a single layer, or cut across and separated after baking.

Once you've got your buns all layered up, mix garlic and butter together, and brush top buns with melted butter garlic mixture. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning.

Bake in preheated oven on parchment lined sheet for 15-20 minutes, until just toasty and cheese is melted.

Making the burger sauce

To make the quick and easy burger sauce for the hamburger sliders you will need:

  • ½ cup mayonaise. My favorite is Kewpie.
  • 1 tablespoon pickle relish. You could also use finely diced dill pickles.
  • 2 tablespoon ketchup.
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard.
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar. I prefer the flavor of organic.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder.

Simply whisk the ingredients together until smooth, and refrigerate until ready to serve. You could make the sauce a few days ahead if you like. (see recipe card below for full instructions for this recipe).

Tips for perfect sliders

Use lean ground beef for this hamburger sliders recipe, and be sure to drain off any excess fat or liquid before adding the beef to the buns. This will keep your final sandwiches from getting soggy.

Don't skimp on the garlic butter. It may seems like a lot, but it trickles down and helps not only the top but also the bottom buns get extra crisp and delicious.

Can you make the sliders ahead?

If you want to prep these sliders for a party in advance, you can assemble them, then tightly wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake. Just set them out for about 10-15 minutes while the oven preheats, and uncover before baking.

Serving the Hamburger Sliders

These Cheeseburger sliders with Hawaiian rolls are great fresh out of the oven, with plenty of Burger Sauce. They go great with a side of french fries, or as part of any appetizer spread.

Storing and reheating the sliders

You can store leftovers (if you have any) tightly wrapped in foil or plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place on a microwave safe plate and cover with a moistened paper towel. Heat on high for 1-2 minutes until warmed through.
