2 firefighters injured as wildfire spreads to 14,000 acres near San Francisco
Two firefighters were injured and more than 100 homes were evacuated as a wind-whipped wildfire spread Sunday to 14,000 acres of mostly dry grassland in Northern California, officials said. The Corral Fire is burning in San Joaquin County, close to the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which is about 50 miles outside San Francisco, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. "Areas west of the California Aqueduct, south of Corral Hollow Creek, west to Alameda County and south to Stanislaus County should leave now," San Joaquin emergency officials said late Saturday.

As Hunter Biden goes to trial on gun charges, here's how his attorneys plan to defend a 'simple case'
Federal prosecutors pursuing a conviction of President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden on three felony gun charges have characterized their upcoming trial as "a simple case" -- and the facts presented in charging documents certainly appear to support that claim. According to special counsel David Weiss' office, in October of 2018, Hunter Biden knowingly lied on a federal form about his drug use in order to procure a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver -- conduct that, at face value, would constitute a federal crime. At a recent pretrial hearing, an attorney for Biden suggested the firearm form at the heart of the case was "much more complicated than [the] special counsel indicates it is."

25 people shot, 1 fatally, as chaos breaks out at Akron, Ohio, street party: Police
At least 25 people were shot, one fatally, when gunfire broke out early Sunday morning at a large street party in Akron, Ohio, authorities said. The shooting erupted just after midnight in East Akron followed by numerous 911 calls from witnesses reporting multiple victims were struck by bullets, according to a joint statement issued Sunday morning by Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding, who was sworn in last week to lead the department. As police officers responded to the scene of the shooting, local hospitals reported multiple people arriving at their respective emergency rooms with gunshot wounds.

Kirby: US expects Israel to agree to proposal if Hamas does
White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said the United States expects that if Hamas agrees to a recent three-phase proposal to end fighting in Gaza, Israel "would say yes." Trump attorney says legal team will appeal conviction, comply with pre-sentence probe
Will Scharf, a member of Donald Trump's legal team, said Sunday that the former president will appeal his conviction on 34 felony counts in New York but will comply with a pre-sentencing investigation in the meantime. Trump's conviction, centered around allegations he covered up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, will be the subject of an investigation from the Probation Department, which will include interviewing Trump. Half of Americans think Trump's guilty verdict was correct, should end campaign: POLL
A plurality of Americans, 50%, think former President Donald Trump's guilty verdict on all 34 counts in his hush money trial was correct, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds, and almost as many, 49%, think he should end his 2024 presidential campaign over the result. Trump was found guilty of 34 counts on Thursday in his trial related to falsifying business records regarding a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election in order to keep her quiet about their alleged affair. Forty-seven percent of Americans said they think the charges against Trump in this case were politically motivated, while 38% say they were not.

Officer, civilian killed, 4 others wounded in Arizona reservation shooting: Police
An officer and a civilian were killed while another officer and three others were wounded in a shooting incident in the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona early Saturday morning, police said. Officers were responding to an incident involving a large crowd at a home in Santan, District 4 in the community around 2 a.m. local time, when multiple gunshots were fired, according to the Gila River Police Department. An unidentified officer was struck and remains in serious but stable condition at the hospital, according to the police.

An Idaho jury sentenced Chad Daybell, the man who was convicted this week for the 2019 murders of his first wife and second wife's two children, to death. Lindsey Blake, the Fremont County, Idaho prosecutor, told reporters she was hopeful the verdict would allow the victims' families and friends a chance to heal. The jury found Daybell guilty on all counts Thursday in what prosecutors said was a plot to pursue "money, power and sex."
