When you head to the mountains that offer snow tubing near DC, you still get that same adrenaline rush as you whiz down the slope, but you won’t have to climb the sledding hill thanks to either a tow rope or Magic Carpet lift.

Snow tubing in Washington, D.C.
National Zoo

During the annual ZooLights festivities, head to the Lion and Tiger Hill, where you can fly down the 150-foot snowless tubing area.
Best Snow Tubing near DC
If you want excellent tubing though, you need to head to the best snow tubing near D.C. in winter. Usually, these are found at ski resorts, where they are making snow when we aren’t getting snowfall in the District.
Head to Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and West Virginia for the weekend or just a day for more snow tubing when you crave winter fun.
Snow tubing in Maryland
Wisp Resort

The tubing fun begins at the top of 12 tube shoots. Here the whole family (4 years old and up, along with being at least 42” tall) can plunge down the 750-foot hill.

Snow Tubing in Virginia
Bryce Resort

The excitement begins at the top of one of the three 800-foot tubing lanes. As your family (36” tall and 4+ years-old) and friends race down the track, making your adrenaline soar.
Sessions are each 1½ hours and are limited to 40 guests per session. Sessions begin every 30 minutes on the weekend and at three designated times during the week.
Children eight and over can tube without being accompanied by an adult. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended.
Wintergreen

Wintergreen’s tubing park, The Plunge, offers both winter and summer tubing adventures.
Be ready to jump in your tube at the top of the 900-foot track and sail to the bottom. You could reach speeds up to 30 MPH before reaching the bottom and getting on the lift to do it all over again.
Choose between racing a friend down the track or hooking your tubes together at the top. Then enjoy the fun and thrills together all the way down.
The recommended age for The Plunge is 6+years old, and children must be at least 42 inches tall.
Those who don’t meet the requirements or wish for a somewhat slower speed can head to Wintergreen’s Ridgely’s Fun Park, where there is a tot-sized hill for tubing.
Advanced reservations are a must. Tickets go on sale each Sunday morning for the next week. Tickets often sell out, so make your reservations early.
Massanutten Resort

Get out and get some fresh mountain air as you enjoy being a kid at the most popular snow tube park in Virginia.
Massanutten Resort’s Family Adventure Park offers both day and night (Northern Lights Snow Tubing) tubing down their 16 lanes of tracks that descend 900 feet and drop 120 vertical feet.
Choose between tubing down solo and racing other guests, or link up with friends or family to create a tube train and ride the hill together.
If you can’t make it to the mountain this winter, plan on a summer vacation where you can enjoy summer tubing on the 600-foot track that has two lanes of fun.
Small children must be at last 36 inches to participate. Anyone under 13 must be accompanied by an adult in the Family Adventure Park.

The Omni Homestead Resort

The Penguin Slides Tubing Park is a great family adventure that will bring back fun childhood memories of sledding.
However, here you won’t have to hike back up the hill; just jump on the Penguin Express, which will take you back to the top of the mountain to do it all over again.
Children must be ages 5 and older plus 48” tall to enjoy the Penguin Slides Tubing Park.
Snow Tubing in PA
Ski Liberty Boulder Ridge Lodge at Liberty Mountain Resort

What is more old-fashion than a day of sledding? Liberty Mountain Resort features the closest tubing slope to Washington D.C. Just jump out of your car and onto the shuttle that takes you to the tubing track and a few hours of tremendous fun.
Liberty Mountain’s Boulder Ridge has 15 snow-covered tubing lanes that children five and up can enjoy zipping down and then take the lift back up to the top to do it all over again.
For those with small children, head to Pebble Ridge for kiddie tubing. Here children ages 2-4 can enjoy unlimited tubing in a special area.

Blue Mountain Resort

If you are looking for the longest and fastest tubing lanes, then head to “the 34” in the Pocono Mountains at Blue Mountain Resort. Here you will be tubing over 1,000 feet before you have to jump on one of the three lifts to do your next run.
You won’t have to attach tubes to form a train to go down the track with a friend. Here you can grab a double tube and enjoy the ride together.
Another advantage to tubing Blue Mountain is their tubing sessions are three hours long instead of the usual 1-2 hours.
Whitetail

Head north on I-70, and between Hagerstown and Hanco*ck, you will find the perfect place to have an adventure tubing. The beautiful Whitetail Resort is just over the Pennsylvania line and a quick and easy day trip from D.C.
The tubing hill is perfect for the young (5 and older) and young at heart to have a blast. Whitetail has a kiddie section for those children ages 2-4 to enjoy a smaller tube run.
Tubing sessions last two hours, then you can enjoy the warmth of the fire in the lodge or the fire pit on the patio as you sip a delicious hot chocolate.
Roundtop Mountain Resort

At Roundtop Mountain, north of Gettysburg and York, Pennsylvania, you need no experience to ride a tube down one of their ten 800-foot long runs as long as you are at least five years old.
So, pack the car for a great day trip or weekend adventure and enjoy two hours of tubing. Here you won’t even have to walk back up the hill as you did as a kid. They have a Magic Carpet lift to take you back up to do it all over again.
For the little tikes who are under five years old, they can enjoy the day on smaller tubes on the tots hill. Unfortunately, you will have to walk up the hill and parents can only watch after climbing to the top.
When you need to warm up or take a break, the Mountain View Lodge is a great place to warm up around the cozy fireplace and to grab a bite to eat.

Those looking for the perfect spot to make lasting memories head to AvalancheXpress’s Heritage Hills, where you will find ten lanes to snow tube down.
The 80-foot high hill is excellent for all ages, and there is no age requirement as long as everyone can get in and out of their own tube without assistance.

Have a blast on the mountain by racing down one of 40 tubing lanes at the Galactic snow park. Choose between an adrenaline racing two hours of tubing under the warmth of the winter sun or the lights at night.
With the aid of the Magic Carpet, you will not even have to hike back up the hill after a terrific run.
Anyone 44” tall can head down alone, but smaller guests between 33 and 43 inches will need to grab a double tube and an adult to slide down the track.

The Pocono Plunge Snow Tubing park offers thrilling rides for anyone over four years old. The tubing park provides all the needed equipment. All you have to do is bring the laughs, screams and excitement.
The park features both single and tandem tube lanes. The tandem lanes are perfect for adults with children under 46 inches tall.
Two conveyors will provide a ride to the top of the mountain and eliminate the climb.
Each tubing session is 1½ hours.
Jack Frost Ski Resort

Those who enjoy a day of sledding head to the Jack Frost Ski Resort, where they make sledding more convenient at the seven tubing lanes.
Here you have the convenience of two conveyor carpets where you can sit on your tube and be hauled up 600 feet to the top of the hill or grab onto one of two cable-tow ropes.
Once you are at the top, jump on that tube and enjoy the wild and crazy ride to the bottom. There are only tubes for single riders, and the recommended minimum height is 42 inches.

At the Snowshoe Mountain Resort Coca-Cola Tube Park, enjoy two hours worth of fun sliding down one of 8 lanes that drop you 6-stories to the party deck below.
The tow rope will make the climb to the top much more manageable than walking and quicker for your next thrilling race to the bottom.
At night, enjoy the multi-colored LED lights that electrify the area as you slide down or take in the show from the party deck as you warm up around the fire pits and heaters.

Just off I-77 is the largest snow tubing park in West Virginia. The park features 14 lanes with a variety of bumps and humps to tube down. Then hop back on your tube on either one of the two Super Carpet Lifts that will take you back up the mountain. When it comes to snow tubing, there is no time to waste!
This is a great family activity for anyone over 44 inches. Those under the minimum height can head to the Kiddie Park for $5 and have a barrel of fun.
